Make and share this Instant Hot Cocoa Mix recipe from Food.com.
- 8 1⁄2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
- 1 1⁄2 cups non-dairy coffee creamer
- 3 cups instant chocolate drink mix (for milk)
- 1 1⁄2 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1 1⁄2 cups miniature marshmallows
- In a very large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients.
- Store cocoa mix in air tight containers.
- To make cocoa: In a mug, combine 1/2 cup mix with 9 oz.
- of boiling water and stir.
I have made and given 5-star reviews to many hot cocoa mixes on this site. To date, I think this is the absolute very best! For starters, I like how it takes standard units of measure. So many manufacturers have changed their packaging and you can't find the exact size needed. In addition, I can buy two of the ingredients in bulk at Costco. The cocoa itself is not dark nor is it overly thick. However, neither is it watery and thin tasting. It is has a nicely sweet milk chocolate taste and might be slightly thicker than Swiss Miss. The comparison stops there--it blows all of the commercial mixes completely out of the water!! I used Carnation Instant Milk--it's my favorite and best-tasting (in my opinion). I also cheated and added an extra 1/2 cup of marshmallows. I felt like the end product was very professional looking and tasting. Everything dissolved and there was no left-over residue in the cup. I think this recipe is worth 10 stars! Thank you Kim D! I can finally put my search for the perfect cocoa recipe to rest!!!!
I omitted the marshmallows, but other than that I LOVED it. Nice creamy...could have a little more chocolate flavor (but that's because I am a chocoholic). I liked it very well. My 3 year old son likes it very well, too.
I made this up a few days ago and it's pretty good. Not knowing anything about powdered milk I believe that's where I made my mistake. Instead of the name brand powder I bought the less expensive brand and made only half a batch as a "test run"..lol.. It was ok but next time (and there will be one) I will use the name brand powder.
